Costco Purchases for Easy, Healthy Eating

Having this ready to eat Roast Beef allowed time to make potatoes au gratin and roasted grape tomatoes

Many of my clients tell me that they can’t stick to healthy eating to reach their goals because they have busy schedules and feel they don’t have time to cook.

I shop at Costco about every other week, so it is my main source of food for my family. I know that not everyone is a member of Costco, but I took the opportunity on my last trip to take photos of some of the items I would buy to make my life a little easier during the week that I can be sure is healthy and clean.

These are the basics you can have on hand, whether you add them into some recipes, or just eat them as they are. For instance, the turkey is obviously to slice and have any time, but the chicken Andouille sausage I often use to make a simple spaghetti sauce using a brand like Rao’s homemade marinara sauce (lower in sugar than most others), served over zoodles (spiralized zucchini), or kohlrabi (low carb German turnip). The sausages would be great in a vegetable stew or with sauteed cabbage, I have even mixed them into a zucchini fritter for a quick, pre-made, breakfast (come back next week for recipes on for high protein, low carb breakfasts using some of the products).

As you can see in the photos, there are lots of items out there these days that are made gluten free, high protein, low carb, etc that are ready to heat and serve. For example you can purchase already prepared roast beef (photo above) or healthy items like bison or lean organic beef to make your own home-made chili or meatballs.

Hopefully this will be helpful when planning your next weekly menu, so that you can create a variety of meals that suit your available time. So I encourage you to take advantage of some of these healthy and convenient foods to keep you moving towards your goal without the stress.

Here are some frozen meals I found at Target from Healthy Choice that (minus any allergies) had a great nutrition profile for when you're in a pinch.
